The Consciousness Revolution

Throughout history we find that special interests make conscious or unconscious efforts to divide and limit consciousness in the majority. Usually they accomplish this with military or police force to back them up. They attempt to mold public consciousness in a way that serves their economic and political interests. Their self-serving actions have led to cycles of oppression and revolution, indeed, to untold misery and death from the origins of human civilization up to and including today. We have only partially ameliorated these cycles by our modern experiments with democracy.  

The Consciousness Game

As alluded to above, a revolution in our conscious awareness of ourselves in relation to forces both inimical to and conducive to human survival is not an arbitrary choice. It is being forced upon us by objective conditions and the growing realization around the world that we may be drifting toward self-destruction. The ancient game of special interests competing with common interests for control of our understanding, our perceptions, beliefs, and values has diverted the consciousness of large groups of humankind from the pursuit of Life’s most fundamental necessities.

The game, as played by special interests, is to find new ways to capture your consciousness and trick you into serving their values without your becoming aware of it. As you may have noticed, this game is sometimes played on the field of personal relationships in a way that not only hurts emotionally but slows or stops the evolution of individual consciousness and the arts of intimate connection.

The game, as played by democratic interests, is to detect the efforts to deceive us and fashion an authentic democratic system that will finally put an end to the cycles of domination and revolution that have slowed human evolution toward its Universal Goals, both secular and spiritual.

The game “ends” in one of three ways: species self-destruction, cycles of oppression and revolution among divided peoples that wear us down and end with a whimper, or with an authentic global democracy that perpetually and peacefully evolves in response to a changing Universe.

Groups of Conscious Beings

When conscious beings come together to exchange information a rapid increase in the amount and accuracy of our conscious awareness can take place. If the organization of information exchange takes place freely while retaining coherence of decision-making, a greater adaptive and creative intelligence is achieved. Thus, for example, authoritarian governments initiated World Wars I and II, but the alliances of nations with more democratic systems were, in the end, victorious.

The Peloponnesian Wars would seem to offer support for a different conclusion, but at that time Athenian democracy was an early, primitive form surrounded by authoritarian kingdoms and empires. It was also weakened from within by slavery, disease, anti-democratic coups, and obstructions by wealthy, aristocratic factions.
