For Will Foreman 5/4/1939- 11/16/2017, Always in Our Hearts
“Serenely blue and white,
Against the deep, black velvet night.
Our Lady Earth rolls over, as if to bathe in light
She heaves a dusky sigh. She has a vow to keep
Of time to work…time to play…time to sleep.
And fire rises in the sky, to chase all the shadows away
And when the light begins to fall, the children in its sway
Begin to stretch and yawn…and rub their eyes ’till dawn
And all of their dreams…have vanished into day…
If you can change the world
And make our dreams part of the day
If you can stop the sun
So children have more time for play
Please hurry up!
The hour is getting late! We must be on our way…
And soon the sun is slipping down
Beneath a sheet of western skies…to leave the warm streets
Of Childhood to a cooler, evening light…
And then, when all is silent like the moon
We’ll watch the eyes of friends grow dim…as time
Slips softly through the shadows…into night.
If you can build a world where time goes
The other way…if you can help us find
A better way to stay…please hurry up!
The hour is getting late! We must…be…on…our way…”
